Job Description

Every year, The Seattle Times offers paid summer internships to outstanding students eager to build a career in journalism. For 10 weeks, our interns work closely with members of our Pulitzer Prize-winning staff on a variety of real-world assignments as employees at the Northwest’s leading daily news media organization. Next summer, you could be paid to train in your chosen profession.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Pitch and handle daily reporting assignments that may include breaking news, trending topics and enterprise reporting across a variety of subject areas.
  • Identify and interview news sources.
  • Quickly and accurately report information for digital and print production.
  • Collaborate with Photos and Graphics to support stories.
  • Participate in brainstorming and story-pitch sessions.
  • Travel as needed for news coverage, sometimes on short notice.

  • Applicants must be graduate students, seniors (including graduating seniors) or juniors attending a four-year college or university.
  • Applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to journalism, possess social media skills, and be digitally astute.
  • Internship experience at other news organizations is strongly preferred.
  • Applicants should have strong reporting, writing and multimedia skills.
  • Applicants must have a personal vehicle available to use for the duration of their internship.

  3. Submit three references familiar with your work (with at least one reference being a current or former manager or supervisor).
  4. Include five samples of your reporting work, which include samples that demonstrate deep reporting and showcase your skills. No more than five samples are allowed. Please collect any content and include this as one file, with any associated links included being accessible and not behind a paywall.
  5. Deadline: submit your application package by Friday, October 31 st , 2025 at 4 p.m. PT.
  6. Confirmation: You will be notified once your application has been received. Check your file size before submitting. You will not receive a confirmation email if your file size exceeds the 10MB limit.

Compensation: The pay for this position is $21.30 per hour.

Please Note : This position requires that you have access to a reliable personal vehicle to respond to work assignments. In addition, you must be able to provide proof of a valid driver's license and auto insurance meeting the company's minimum liability limits prior to hire. This position requires the successful completion of a pre-employment motor vehicle report once an offer has been made.
