Private Care Companion in West Houston Needed ASAP

Our client’s family is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and highly communicative Private Care Companion to provide dedicated support to a gentleman in his 70s living in West Houston, Texas. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting individuals with cognitive decline and be comfortable setting firm, kind boundaries while encouraging an active routine.

About the Client/Patient:

Early 70s. Struggles with mobility, essentially uses a walker full time. Mild memory issues, repeats himself often, experiencing a cognitive decline. Charming, charismatic, sweet. Needs help cleaning around the house. Struggles with incontinence, must be in diapers full time. Lives in an apartment in a retirement (55+) community.

Position Details

• Location: Private residence in a senior community in West Houston, TX.

• Client: Gentleman in his early 70s.

• Schedule: Flexible, to be determined:

• Two days per week, approximately 2–4 hours per shift.

• Compensation: $20 - $25 per hour, based on experience.

• Reporting: You will be employed by and report directly to the client's local daughter, with whom you will maintain regular and open communication.

• Start Date: ASAP/December 2025

Primary Responsibilities

The Care Companion's main role is to provide non-medical support, companionship, and household assistance to help the client maintain a stable routine, social engagement, and an active lifestyle.

Companionship and Social Engagement

• Socialization: Encourage and engage the client in conversation and activities to prevent isolation and keep him mentally active.

• Routine Management: Assist the client in maintaining a consistent daily schedule and routine.

• Boundary Setting: Ability to set firm, yet kind and respectful boundaries to ensure safety and adherence to the daily plan.

• Activity Promotion: Encourage light physical activity and engagement (within the client's capabilities).

Errands and Appointments

• Transportation: Safely transport the client to and from medical and physical therapy appointments.

• Grocery/Supply Management: Handle grocery pick-up, put away items, and ensure household necessities are stocked.

• Medication Monitoring: Maintain a visual stock of regularly needed non-prescription medications and supplies, and communicate needs to the daughter.

Household Support

• Meal Preparation: Basic, light meal preparation and organizing for the client.

• Coordination: Coordinate with the family and physical therapists to schedule and manage appointments.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience: Required experience working with and supporting individuals experiencing cognitive decline or similar deficits in a private home care setting.

• Communication Skills: Excellent, proactive, and timely communication skills, with the ability to provide regular updates to the client's daughter.

• Personal Attributes: Reliable, patient, trustworthy, and skilled at taking initiative. Must be able to help keep the client active and engaged.

• References: Must provide professional references demonstrating relevant experience. Open to private household or assisted living facility experience.

• Other: Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Must be legally authorized to work in the US and willing to take a background check. Must be at least 18 years of age to apply.
