Our Office of Public Affairs' Media and Messaging Unit seeks an Information Officer to play a vital role in communicating meaningful information about our primary lines of business—retirement, health care, and investments—with our members, employers, stakeholders, and the general public. In this role, your outstanding writing skills will be essential as you craft clear, compelling, and accurate content across a variety of platforms, including articles, web content, social media, and external communications.

You'll work with a team of talented professionals to perform a wide variety of communications, writing, editing, and research tasks critical to ensuring the retirement security of more than 2.4 million CalPERS members. The ability to translate complex topics into accessible, engaging language is a must, as is a keen eye for detail and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and accuracy in all written materials.

Telework Information: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

Effective July 1, 2025, The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each employee shall receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours PLP 2025 leave credits, monthly. The salary range(s) included in the job advertisement do not reflect the 3 percent reduction in pay.

Statement of Qualifications

Please provide a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) for the hiring manager’s review. Applications received without an SOQ or those that do not respond to the specific questions below will not be considered.

The SOQ must be typed, titled “Statement of Qualifications,” and each response must be numbered and list all relevant experience, education, and training, including places of employment, dates, and duties performed. The SOQ must not exceed two pages in length and must be in Arial font, 11 point.

1. Based on the duty statement, provide a brief overview of your relevant experience and education. Why do you believe you should be considered for this position?

Minimum Qualifications
