Under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) with guidance from the lead Environmental Scientist, the Agricultural Technician I (Seasonal) is responsible for traveling, deploying, inspecting, servicing, and replacing Vine Mealybug (VMB) traps. The traps are generally first deployed in May and inspected and serviced monthly until their removal in November.
Traps and ensures suspect samples are handled carefully at all times to prevent cross-contamination of samples and prevent damage that would make identification of a suspect target pest more difficult. Specimens may be removed and placed in appropriate sampling containers as directed, and submitted to the entomology laboratory.

The duties of this position are primarily conducted outdoors. When assigned to work outdoors, approximately 70% of the time is at nursery and vineyard locations. Overnight and/or extended travel to various locations throughout the state may be required to accomplish work objectives in various environments. State vehicles are used to travel to these worksites.
Driving is required. Employee must have a good driving record and a valid Class C California driver’s license. If employee is not a California resident but takes a job here or becomes a resident, they must get a California driver’s license within 10 days of job appointment.
