Navin B Chawla joined the prestigious Indian Administrative Service in 1969. He has had a distinguished civil service career of 35 years. He rose to the rank of Special Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forests. He was then appointed Secretary in the Department of Consumer Affairs before taking on the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in 2004. In 2005, he was appointed Election Commissioner. In April of 2009, he was appointed India’s 16th Chief Election Commissioner. During his tenure, Mr. Chawla received national and international acclaim for successfully completing the General Elections in April-May 2009.

Mr. Chawla is the Founder and Vice-Chairman of the Lepra India Trust that was established under the thoughtful guidance of Mother Teresa. The NGO supports and provides relief programs for the welfare of leprosy patients and their families.
